We are excited to announce that Touchstone Institute will administer Practice Ready Ontario, a workplace assessment program, which will add 50 new family doctors to Ontario communities in the first year of the program. The application portal opens today for phase 1 applications; the deadline to apply is July 19, 2023.
Practice Ready Ontario streamlines the process for internationally trained family physicians or general practitioners who have completed post-graduate training and have an established track record of work in another country to practice in Ontario.
Practice ready assessment programs are already in place in seven other provinces, where they have evolved into an essential element of the provision of family physicians. Over the past five years, these programs have been an important component of medical provision – facilitating the entry of around 600 family physicians into the Canadian health workforce. The annual number is comparable to the size of a graduating class from a medium-sized Canadian medical school.
Practice Ready Ontario is funded by the Government of Ontario. Touchstone Institute also works closely with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, Medical Council of Canada, and others.
