Touchstone Institute is thrilled to congratulate Dr. Eric Wong, our Clinical Director, on becoming President of the Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP).
Dr. Wong officially takes on the role on September 24, following his term as President-Elect.
We’re particularly proud to celebrate this milestone because Eric has been part of Touchstone’s work for many years. His contributions have helped shape our approach to physician assessment and pathways to practice for internationally trained physicians.
Eric first became involved with Touchstone in 2007, helping develop and deliver physician high-stakes assessments for internationally trained physicians seeking to practice in Canada. He went on to serve as a Chief Examiner and physician examiner.
At the heart of this work is a simple but important goal: to ensure qualified, experienced physicians trained outside Canada have a rigorous and fair way to demonstrate their readiness to practice here. When those physicians are able to continue their careers, patients and communities benefit from greater access to care.
Over the years, Eric has continued to contribute as a facilitator, instructor and subject matter expert, while also providing invaluable advice and connections within the family medicine community. His generosity, thoughtfulness and genuine commitment to the people he works with have made him a valued colleague to so many at Touchstone.
Today, Eric serves as Clinical Director for Practice Ready Ontario, where he brings that same commitment to helping internationally trained physicians demonstrate their readiness to practice in Ontario.
As an academic family physician, Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Acting Vice Dean, Medical Education, at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Eric brings a wealth of experience across clinical practice, medical education, assessment and professional leadership.
His new role with the OCFP is a natural extension of that leadership and his commitment to family medicine and access to care in Ontario.
We are delighted to see Eric take on this new role and look forward to seeing the continued impact of his leadership. Deep partnerships with healthcare leaders like Eric have always been an important foundation for Touchstone Institute’s work and will continue to be as we expand our role in developing workforce solutions across the Canadian healthcare sector and supporting healthcare professionals throughout their career journeys.
