Pathways to System Transformation
Amid current urgent healthcare professional shortages, Touchstone Institute is focused on optimizing our capabilities to lead positive systemic improvements, including adding quality health human resources to the system.
Working with partners, we draw on our foundational strengths in competency evaluation, workplace assessment, and curricula development to support skill and competency development.
This unique expertise positions us to identify and address the gaps that are barriers to practice for skilled health professionals.
Touchstone Institute’s core work is to move valuable, often untapped, knowledge and energy of health professionals into action. We accomplish this by enabling pathways to practice for internationally educated health professionals and equipping them with the necessary tools to succeed long term in the Canadian context.
Successful implementation in 2023-2024 of the Nurse Ready self-assessment tool and Practice Ready Ontario’s streamlined route to licensure and practice in family medicine are both powerful examples of transformation-driven programs.

With an eye to the future in the final year of our three-year strategic plan, Touchstone Institute remains focused on strengthening and building pathways to excellence in healthcare. We will continue to lead transformation through ongoing commitment to:
- Proactively explore close collaborations and strong partnerships needed to hasten system transformation
- Leverage technology to build solutions that provide new avenues for learning
- Build inclusivity and fairness through governance and work to amplify the point-of-care perspectives of clinicians and clients
- Measure outcomes and impacts to ensure programs are effective, sustainable and fair
